My experience in construction started nearly 30 years ago. Over those years, the construction industry is being asked to do more and more with less and less. Skilled craftsmen and seasoned management are either leaving construction or retiring at rates faster than can they can be replenished. This vacuum of leadership and experience coupled with advancements in technology that outpace the industry has had major repercussions over the course of my career.
My goals and objectives have always been centered around being a “student of the business.” This endeavor has allowed me to cross paths with some of the most forward-thinking individuals in the construction industry. I believe too often we hear it said, “After all, this is construction.” My goal can be simply stated as “to make the industry better for those I work with.”
One way I have accomplished this is to understand what happens at the face of the work is an indication of corporate management. I have focused much of my expertise in the area of productivity and lean construction practices at the crew level. I have honed the unique skill of observing and analyzing what is truly happening at the crew level in order to identify where the focus of problem-solving should begin. Only then can the culture of corporations adapt to making real, significant, and positive changes.
